[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]So you’re stuck at home. You want to keep your mind stimulated, but you also want to avoid the news. How about a podcast?
Here are some podcasts about addiction, sobriety and mental health.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”The Addicted Mind Podcast” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fpodcasts.apple.com%2Fus%2Fpodcast%2Fthe-addicted-mind-podcast%2Fid1268632042|title:The%20Addicted%20Mind%20Podcast|target:%20_blank|”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In The Addicted Mind, host Duane Osterlind invites a diverse set of guests to discuss addiction and treatment research. The topics explored range from grief and loss in addiction, to harm reduction, to young people in addiction. Osterlind—who is himself in recovery—is empathetic, warm and curious. This invites interesting and open conversation with his guests. These are stories about struggle, yes—but ultimately they are about hope. Hill himself has a story of hope: after battling heroin addiction for much of his life, he’s been in recovery 19 years. In The Sober Therapist, she shares what she’s learned—through personal and professional experience—about addiction, recovery, and mental health. The topics range from maladaptive coping, to living with trauma, to staying sober during the current pandemic. She recently uploaded an episode with thoughts and mantras to help calm your mind during this crisis. Honestly, it helped me. Some episodes are the hosts sharing what they’ve learned personally and professionally, and others are the hosts speaking with guests. Some of the many topics covered are therapists in therapy, race and racism in the therapy room, teenage mental health, and managing stress and anger. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Don’t Freak Out! An Anxiety Podcast” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fpodcasts.apple.com%2Fus%2Fpodcast%2Fdont-freak-out-an-anxiety-podcast-with-allison-micco%2Fid1219287629|title:Don’t%20Freak%20Out!%20An%20Anxiety%20Podcast|target:%20_blank|”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]While this podcast is no longer updating, I included it because the topics discussed are always relevant. Don’t Freak Out! has a long backlog of episodes to dig through about anxiety and stress. Host Allison Micco talks to a wide range of guests about topics having to do with the neuroscience of stress, anxiety research, and advice on coping. There is also a sub-series within the podcast called “Sober Series,” which is specifically about addiction and sobriety. This new podcast features the audio from episodes of our “Straight Talk on Opiates” television show. On this show, host Mike Gimbel speaks to drug treatment professionals, people in recovery, families who have lost loved ones to an overdose, political leaders, and others about addiction and recovery. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This is just a short list of podcasts about these subjects. I’m sure if you type “addiction,” “sobriety,” or “mental health” into the search bar of your podcast app many more will appear.
