The UCSF report compared hospitalization numbers in Colorado in the two years prior and then two years after legalization of marijuana. The researches then compared Colorado to New York and Oklahoma, because marijuana is legal for medical but not recreational use there.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The authors found that hospitalizations due to car accidents increased about 10% in Colorado, and admissions for alcohol abuse and drug overdoses climbed about 5% each. Prior to legalization, naysayers presumed that recreational marijuana would lead to an increase in young adults or children abusing marijuana, and an increase in traffic accidents. Since the release of this report, researchers suggested creating new preventive and educational anti-DUI campaigns that are centered on the dangers of driving while high on marijuana, or the dangers of mixing marijuana and other illicit substances.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2749″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” el_class=”resp-img”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Many people disregard addiction when it is to a legal substance such as alcohol or, in some cases, marijuana.
