24-Bed Detox Facility gets approval to open in Baltimore
TruHealing Centers announced the addition of the Baltimore Detox Center, the second freestanding non-hospital detoxification center in Maryland Baltimore, MD, April 8, 2020 — The Owings Mills-based TruHealing Centers has been authorized by the Maryland Health Care Commission to convert a building in Baltimore County Maryland, into an inpatient 24-bed drug and alcohol detoxification facility. The center will be called the Baltimore Detox Center and was approved on March 19. Authorization was granted to TruHealing Centers after 30 months of work, to receive their approval for the Certificate of Need, granted by the Maryland Health Care Commission, permits and accreditations included by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Services (CARF), and approval to operate an American Society of Addiction Medication Level 3.7 medically monitored intensive inpatient withdrawal management facility. At this level of care, patients receive 24-hour service, including medication maintenance from a nursing staff. TruHealing Centers COO Michael Silberman sees the accomplishment as an enormous win for the population with substance use disorders in the state Maryland. “Our city and state need more detoxification facilities. This approval took over 2 and a half years to cut through the red tape of the current Certificate of Need process, and we are grateful to be able to begin construction ASAP. We will be the second, free standing detoxification facility in the entire state of Maryland. We are in the middle of a national crisis, and the approval could not have come at a better time. This is a tremendous accomplishment, one that we are very proud of, and we look forward to giving back to the community by offering these much-needed services, at a time where its most needed.” Silberman said. Once operational, the Baltimore Detox Center will reserve a minimum of 15% of its bed space for indigent patients as defined by the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR). An official opening for the facility has yet to be determined.
